Painting

Denise Eno Ernest creates highly abstract, dimensional works using several distinct techniques.  By either building actual three dimensional shapes that attach to her paintings or by using mixed media to create a three dimensional landscape to her work, she creates visual and tactile paintings in a language all her own.

Recently Denise has begun a series of paintings using silk scarves, along with the application of acrylic and metallic paint in varying thicknesses.  The juxtaposition of the paint to the delicacy and eroticism of the silk scarves creates both tension and vulnerability in the work.

This series creates the perception of the feminine by creating curves, folds, and 3-dimensionality, with sumptuous silk fabrics, metallic paints, bold rich iridescent and pearlescent colors, and the fluidity of the brush strokes and paint pours and throws.

At the same time, Denise continues work on her three dimensional paintings.  These works are created using a technique where canvas is hardened into desired shapes as distinct elements of each piece.

The visual balance of Denise's painting is inspired by the use of light and dark in early Flemish art. Curves, diagonals and folds push against the hardness of the straight line emphasizing the sensuality of the feminine erotic.

Photography

Denise's photography is centered on her deep love of nature.  She has a keen eye for framing a photograph and looks for the abstract rather than the real.  For many years in the past when she wasn't able to paint, she turned to photography as her creative outlet.
